Claire Bertrand studied from 1908 to 1912 at the Académie Julien and at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, where she met her future husband Willy Eisenschitz. In 1914 the two married; Son David and daughter Evelyne were born in the internment camp where the family was held during the World War due to Willy's Austrian citizenship. In the early 1920s the artist couple moved to Provence during the summer months, where they settled down in La Valette-du-Var in 1927. Claire Bertrand regularly took part in group and solo exhibitions in French galleries. In 1939 she followed her husband, who was in danger because of his Jewish background, to a hiding place in the Drȏme. Between 1952 and 1969 the painter couple stayed in Ibiza for several months, and were particularly fascinated by the intensive light of the island.
